This retail shop was formerly a video club located in Neos Kosmos, directly across from the metro station, making it an ideal location due to high pedestrian traffic. My client, the owner of a patisserie specializing in chocolate-covered strawberries and ice cream, wanted to expand his business while retaining his old shop, which was situated on a much less frequented road.
To integrate the workshop with the patisserie sales area, my concept was to design the façade of the building to appear as a series of pictures within frames, showcasing the patisserie’s workspaces and providing an immersive experience for customers.
We installed large white brick frames around the windows on each façade of the shop. The most prominent window framed the pastry chef, allowing him to be showcased to the public as he worked. A long cashier’s bench was placed in front of the preparation area, functioning as a frame for the workspace.
I aimed to create an atmosphere that exuded freshness and purity, directly reflecting the products offered. At the same time, I wanted the design to convey warmth, paying homage to the family-owned nature of the business, while also evoking a sense of coolness associated with the enjoyable experience of eating ice cream. Ultimately, I intended for the elements of tradition and modernity, warmth and coolness, purity and freshness to come together in a harmonious combination.
The materials used for this project included brick and wood, which suggested tradition and warmth. The brick was painted white to symbolize freshness and purity. The patisserie’s professional equipment was finished with white lustrous glass, representing the purity and coolness of ice cream.
