This is a 180 sq.m, two-story house located in Kamares, the Port of Sifnos Island. Sifnos is part of the Cycladic islands, known for their distinctive architecture, which features rectangular white cubes arranged in various combinations to create a diverse and interesting aesthetic. A notable characteristic of Cycladic architecture is the use of dry stone walls.
New houses on the island adhere to the principles of Cycladic architecture, which impose strong limitations on the morphology of building elements, including windows, doors, chimneys, and materials, in order to preserve the regional character of the island.
The owner’s vision for this house was to create a space that could host friends while providing them with privacy. The goal was to design the summer house to feel like a small luxury boutique hotel, with each room functioning as a separate suite, complete with its own bathroom. Each of the two stories can operate independently, with separate entrances, living areas, dining spaces, and kitchens.
On the ground floor, there are two bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. The bedrooms on the second floor are on different levels, and a straight internal staircase connects the two floors. The materials used in the house include white plaster, wooden windows with glass and shutters, and a combination of wood and stone.
